GOP preys on Seniors

The party of lies and the party of fear has now chosen to prey on Senior Citizens. They have put out a "Seniors Bill of Rights" in op eds and television commercials by disgraced GOP chairman Micheal Steele that is nothing more then false implications and fear mongering aimed at Senior Citizens.

It states they are against certain things that implies that the President's Health Care reform proposals are for. This is an out right lie.

Here are some of the statements in the "Seniors Bill of Rights"

Protect Medicare not cut it. Let me get this straight, the party that voted against medicare that complains about costs and the deficient is opposed to cutting waste and fraud in the program? No one is proposing cutting benefits to Medicare. They are for cutting costs, and give aways to insurance companies that do nothing for Seniors. In fact under Obama's plan benefits will increase. Namely narrowing the donut hole that costs seniors thousands of dollars in the existing plan on prescriptions.

Prohibit Government from getting between Seniors and their doctors. Who is proposing in any bill anywhere anything else? This is a complete scare tactic that has no basis in any truth whatsoever.


Prohibiting efforts to ration health care based on age. Efforts by who? NO ONE IS PROPOSING THIS!!! Total Fear mongering.

Preventing government from interfering in end of life discussions. Unbelievably this is the Death Panel lie again. The ONLY mention of end of life discussions is it would allow any public plan to pay for the counseling if a patient chooses. There is NO government interfering in such discussion.

Insure Seniors can keep their current coverage. Are they deaf? EVERYONE can keep their current coverage under EVERY plan currently proposed.

You know when you hear about fraud going on in your town its upsetting but when those that commit such crimes prey on Senior citizens it is particularly disgusting. It is clear such fraud directed at Seniors is what the GOP is now resorting to.

Do NOT forget the AARP is working for health care reform. For goodness sakes would they support reforms that hurt seniors?

It is time to protect our Senior Citizens from being scared by Republican Lies. Call them out on it each and every time.

GOP Health Care Lie: British don't like their health care

This is a lie that is repeated over and over again by the GOP now for months if not years. I heard Senator Kay Bailey-Hutchison repeat it today on MSNBC. The fact is its not true. In almost every national opinion poll in the 50 years of the British National Health Service it gets between and 80-90% approval from the British Citizens.

Like all big programs clearly it is not perfect but they want to improve what they have not scrap it. In fact a recent poll showed that 88% of English were strongly opposed to an American style Health System. Why would they? Their health system is ranked 18th in the world by the World Health Organization, the United States 37th. Then they try to scare you with stories of people dying from being denied Government Health care in Britain. Oh really? The Life expectancy in the United Kingdom is 25th in the world, the United States? 35th.

This is a lie the repubLIEcans have repeated often and frankly have annoyed the citizens of Britain and Canada. Yet no one is calling them out on it. Till now.

Another GOP Lie: Pelosi and Unamerican

As usual the Republicans love to make up a lie and keep repeating it until lots of people believe it. "Iraq tied to 9/11," "Death Panels," "Government paying for abortions," have all been debunked over and over again. But the one continuing lie is that Pelosi called people "Un-American" because they were against health care.

This is what Pelosi actually said on August 10th in an op-ed in USA Today.

"These disruptions are occurring because opponents are afraid not just of differing views — but of the facts themselves. Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American. Drowning out the facts is how we failed at this task for decades."

Ok anyone with a brain can understand it is not that they have different political views that she calls un-american it is the shouting down, the threats and the lies that prevents actual political discourse that is un-american.

Once again the right can't be honest about anything, they twist and lie and distort because when they stick to the actual truth they lose.

They attack Pelosi for two reasons. One she is an effective House Majority Leader for the Democrats, and second the good old boys just can't stand to have a woman in charge.

Desperate and Dangerous

Throughout our history whenever some people found themselves on the wrong side of the facts, history, public opinion and morality, hate and violence has resulted.


In 1837 a Pro-Slavery Mob burned a newspaper building in Alton Illinois. "Blame the Media." Sound familiar?


Throughout the civil rights movement these "patriotic Americans" waved their flags high.

In the 90's frustration and irrational fear of "government takeover" lead to the growth of the militia movement. One member let out his frustration in Oklahoma City.

During the campaign the fear of a Black man with an unusual name being elected President, made McCain rallies appear more like mob riots then campaign events. "Obama is an Arab!" No ma'am.

And now this is what we are seeing.



What will they resort to next in their desperation? Who will we hold responsible?

The Wisdom of Obama

After seeing the irresponsible comments made by the GOP Senators and Congressmen regarding Iran, I thank God for the Wisdom of our President. He used restraint and wisdom in his statements about the situation in Iran to avoid giving the "Supreme Leader" any credibility when blaming the United States for the unrest.

The President and in fact even the resolutions passed by the Congress and the Senate state support for the demonstrators rights, free elections and the abhorrence of violence. Yet wisely he did not take sides in the election dispute itself or appear in any way trying to manipulate the situation.

The GOP on the other hand rather then using wisdom in their statements that have as their motive to make things better for the world, for prospects of peace, and for the prospects of change in Iran, they instead want to use George Bush cowboy terms and puff out their chests and saber rattle. This approach would do great harm to the resistance movement in Iran and thus strengthening the existing government, stoke anti American sentiments and make the middle east and the world even less safe.

It is quite clear that the GOP leaders are interested in one thing, criticizing Obama. To that end they put safety, peace and even their country's interests last.

Yesterday we saw supporters of the government in Iran shouting as usual, "Death to America". Today we see people in the streets now shouting "Death to Khamenei." That would not have happened if the anti-American fears of the Iranian people had been stoked by chest pounding by our President.
